Google Reviews

Two Approaches. Very Different Results.

Most small business owners fall into one of two camps when it comes to Google reviews: they never ask (and wonder why they only have 8 reviews after three years in business), or they ask in a way that feels desperate and puts customers on the spot. Neither approach works well. Here's what does.

Begging for Reviews Looks Like This:

  • "Please, please leave us a review — we really need more reviews."
  • Sending a review link three times in a week to the same customer
  • Offering a discount in exchange for a review (this violates Google's policies)
  • Asking at the wrong moment — before the job is done, or days after when the positive feeling has passed
  • Making the customer feel guilty for not having already left one

A Good Review Strategy Looks Like This:

  • Asking immediately after delivering a great experience, in person, genuinely: "I'm so glad you're happy with the work. It would mean a lot to us if you shared that on Google."
  • Making the ask easy by providing a direct link that takes one tap to open
  • Following up once — not with another request, but with a genuine thank-you for their business, which serves as a natural reminder
  • Responding to every review you receive
  • Building it into your closing routine so it happens consistently

The first approach produces occasional reviews, often skewing toward unhappy customers. The second produces a consistent stream of positive reviews by catching customers at peak satisfaction and making it easy to act.
